My Journey pt3

(Possible spoiler!)

One thing, before I proceed: I just remembered yet another thought experiment that led was important to my story. It occurred well before the one stated in pt1, and it had to do with the role-playing game D&D. You see, in the D&D lore, one of the absolute best armors is made of Dragon skin. So, I begin thinking about creatures more powerful than dragons, how their skins might be used as armor, and what magical properties they would have.

It occurred to me that Demon skin armor would be vastly more powerful (though vastly more difficult to obtain). But, unlike a Dragon, killing a demon banishes it to the nether realms (some stories say forever, others name a specific amount of time, and still others say the more powerful the demon, the more likely they are to find a way back to our realm). So if you kill a demon, you can’t skin it to make said armor. A demon would have to be skinned while still alive. Of course, if you did this, you’d probably be too busy running and hiding from that demon, to ever really be able to use the armor you made from its skin.

But that got me thinking about entrapment spells since you’d have to use one to get the demon’s skin. So, to get the skin for the armor, you entrap it using magic. But to prevent the demon from chasing you into every corner of the world, you could also strip it of its power. Of course, there are ways to gain power (after all, you did or you wouldn’t have been able to cast the entrapment spell), so you’d want to strip it of its memories, too. That way, it would not recall who took everything away, reducing it to an almost human-level being.

I toyed with notions of putting each of these things that were stripped away into artifacts that could be hidden around the world. Items that each had a unique ability, based on which thing was taken from the demon. But which, once discovered and brought together, could be restored to the demon, making it powerful and dangerous once again - how terrible for the one that took these things from it!

From there, I realized that the creature left over, after everything had been taken away, might still be more than a human, such as a vampire. Later, I theorized that some very capable men might want to strip a demon of its power and memory if they were tricked into thinking they were doing God’s work.
